Blurb:
The gold thread shimmers in the fading light . . .

It promises Charlotte Miller a way out of debt, a chance to save her family's beloved woolen mill. It promises a future for her sister, livelihood for her townsfolk, security against her sinuous and grasping uncle. It might even promise what she didn't know she needed: lasting hope and true love.

But at what cost?

To get the thread, Charlotte must strike a bargain with its maker, the mysterious Jack Spinner. But the gleam of gold conjures a shadowy past -- secrets and bonds ensnaring generations of Millers. And Charlotte's mill, her family, her friends, her love . . . What do those matter to a powerful stranger who can spin straw into gold?

A fairy tale retelling! I love it! This is a YA novel that I found through ClassOf82k. The author seems to be getting some pretty good buzz, as you can tell if you follow this Google search. I'm pretty late in announcing it, since it came out on the 1st. I had so many debuts to announce that I forgot to look at ClassOf82K this month. (I know--excuses, excuses.)

The closest thing that I could find to an excerpt is on the Amazon page, of all places. As usual, if someone can provide me with a link to an excerpt, I'll update this post.

I heard about this book! Nathan Bransford did a post where he asked everyone to post what book they were currently reading in the comments section, and someone was reading it. It's definitely on my list. I love fairy tale retellings!

Hey, Lisa; I'm glad to be missed. I must have put a post up while you were writing this! Yes, I did keep a bit busy this week.

Ooh, Katie--I may be in touch since you love fairy tale retellings.

I love a good YA novel. I'm just an overgrown kid, I guess.

For as much as I enjoy watching young adult sci-fi/fantasy films, I've never read a YA novel. I should give it a try.

Kimber an- meez.com is rather fun, how did you know about it?

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! What a beautiful cover!!!! I know they say that covers sometimes sell books and sometimes blurbs or reviews sell them. But this is a cover that would make me pick up the book and read it.

It totally blows me a way. -C

Ooo, I love fairy tales and updated ones, too. :-) I'm always curious to see what a modern author can come up with.

I'll have to add this to my Wish List (like it isn't long enough already, lol, like my TBR pile).

This one sure is attracting attention! Carole, I love the cover as well, but I loved the cover to your novel just as much.

What is it about fairy tales that we find endlessly compelling?

I think it has to do with that wonder element you talked about recently. There's truly a sense of wonder in fairy tales, and they're just so irresistible!

Incidentally, I've been on a fairy tale kick lately. I've got two fairy tale retellings (short stories) on submission right now. So I'm a little more entranced with them now than usual, but still, I'm always game for anything that resembles a fairy tale.

I'm such a sucker for fairy tales. Always have been. My daughter is just like me in this respect.

I think in the end, it just comes down to being a sucker for good stories.
