It must be all the Microsoft exams catching up with me, because I'm needing a bit of a break. The posts for the rest of the week will be a bit more lightweight than usual, except maybe an interview that might come in later this week. I won't be posting a Discovery Showcase this weekend. I'll continue to throw my thoughts up--especially on reads in-process--but no in-depth posts until next week. By then, I should be ready to write a review or two.
I suppose another way to put it is I'm going to be a lazy blogger this week!
What am I reading? I'm balancing three books right now, waiting for one to hook me enough for me to set the others aside. A really tempting review copy came in today, but I'm doing my best to ignore it while I sample The Stranger by Max Frei, Griffin's Shadow by Leslie Ann Moore and The Hunt for Dark Infinity by James Dashner.
What are you reading?
Throw up your thoughts? Isn't that what blogging is all about? Throw up?
ReplyDeleteAnyway...I'm reading The Sword-Edged Blonde, A Game of Thrones, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed, and a few others.
I read Griffin's Daughter by Leslie Ann Moore a few weeks ago so I'll be interested in what you think of the second book! I'm reading TradeWinds by MM Kaye, and just finished a series of SF books I read for research... I'm having fantasy withdrawls.
ReplyDeleteTK, I hope not. Maybe that was a poor choice of words!
ReplyDeleteI need to buy a paperback copy of The Sword-Edged Blonde. I did my review off a library copy.
Never Have Your Dog Stuffed . . . ? Must be a nonfiction book?
WriterMom, I think I read Trade Winds years ago! I keep meaning to read The Far Pavilions; my dad recommended it to me years ago.
I'll be interested to see what you think of Griffin's Shadow by Leslie Ann Moore, I just finished her first book. I'm now reading Trade Winds by MM Kaye after finished a slew of SF...
ReplyDeleteTia - Never Have Your Dog Stuffed is by Alan Alda. A biography of sorts that is quite compelling to read. I'll be reviewing it as soon as I finish (which will be soon).
ReplyDeleteTia, we are all human beings or do you come from outer space :>)
ReplyDeleteI needed a break in my fantasy reading. Now I'm halfway through CALLANDER SQUARE by Anne Perry. I like to read about Victorian age.
"I have discovered that all human evil comes from this, man's being unable to sit still in a room."
Blaise Pascal, French mathematician, physicist (1623 - 1662)
I hope you enjoy your break. {Smile}
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I'm trying to finish The Year of the Griffin by Diana Wynne Jones before it needs to go back to the library on Friday. I normally read more than one book, but I'll worry about getting back into some when I finish this one. {Smile}
Anne Elizabeth Baldwin
I finished Watchmen today (now I can finally see the movie!), and I started and finished Alcatraz Versus the Schivener's Bones by Brandon Sanderson. So technically, I'm not reading anything at the moment, but I did just finish two books. I actually wandered over here today to get the title of two books you had on here recently, because I'm trying to decide what to read next.
ReplyDeleteCool! I just love influencing reading habits!
ReplyDeleteLet's see...I just finished reading, in the past few weeks, Devlin's Honor, Devlin's Justice (those are books 2 and 3 of the Sword of Change series by Patricia Bray), Armed and Magical (by Lisa Shearin), and now I'm reading Black Powder War by Naomi Novik.
ReplyDeleteI've had a real need to read lately (although hubby would probably say that's been true for most of my life - and he'd be right! :-)).
I also got away from fantasy for one book, a mystery - with a cat in it. It's Catnap, a Midnight Louie mystery, and it's hilarious! It's set in the book world, at a book convention in Las Vegas. It includes two real, live cats named...wait for it...Baker and Taylor! ;-)
Did I mention it was hilarious?
Of all the fantasy books I've read in the past weeks, the Lisa Shearin book is my fave, because Raine Benares is kick-ass and funny as all get out (and she even has bits of time for romance; a lick 'em and leave 'em kind of thing ;-)). Of course, that one is part of series, although at least some ends are tied up.
I think the next book I'm going to get is the Sword-Edged Blonde; it just sounds so intriguing; plus it combines my two fave genres.
Thanks for your blog, Tia, because without it, I might never have found a lot of the books I now have and enjoy. :-)
